What lasers and devices do we use at Lanoi?

We treat with four devices, because each one is built for a different job. Having more than one is what lets us match the treatment to your skin.

  • The Lumenis UltraPulse CO2 removes the top layers of skin, so it is our strongest option for deeper acne scarring, etched lines and significant sun damage. It also needs the most recovery time.
  • Our Lumenis M22 covers two treatments, because it delivers light for brown spots and redness as well as ResurFX, which heats the layer beneath the surface without breaking it.
  • For visible vessels, redness and general dullness, we use the Candela Nordlys.
  • The Alma Opus handles crepey texture and early loss of firmness, since it works with tiny points of radio frequency energy.

How do you treat sun damage and brown spots?

Brown spots on the face, chest and hands are usually years of sun rather than something you were born with, which is why light and laser treatment works on them when creams do not. Light treatment on the M22 targets the extra color directly, over a short series spaced a few weeks apart. Where the texture has changed along with the color, we pair it with a resurfacing treatment instead of treating the color alone.

San Diego sun is a year round problem, not a summer one, so daily protection is part of the plan rather than an afterthought. Without it, new spots build from the day we finish.

What treats acne scarring?

Pitted acne scars need a laser resurfacing treatment rather than a peel, because the change in texture sits below the surface where a peel does not reach. We treat depressed scarring with the UltraPulse CO2, sometimes alongside Opus Plasma, and we look at scar type first. Rolling, boxcar and ice pick scars respond differently and most people have more than one kind on the same face.

The flat brown or red marks left behind after a breakout are not scars. They fade on their own over months and are treated a different way. We will tell you which one you actually have before recommending anything.
